Alcohol, Puberty, and Adolescent Brain Development (R21): -Purpose. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant applications from applicant organizations to investigate 1) the degree to which hormonal changes at puberty interact with neurodevelopmental processes to promote sex effects in alcohol use and misuse, and 2) the effects of alcohol on these interactive processes. This initiative is limited to animal studies only. -Mechanism of Support. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will utilize the R21 grant mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, RFA-AA-07-007, that solicits applications under the R01 mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. It is anticipated that approximately $1.0 million dollars will be available to support 1-4 awards. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
