Challenge Cost Share Program: The principal purpose of this agreement is to select one to three organizations to serve as a national partner to help conduct the NPS¿s Challenge Cost Share program. The national partner organization(s) will be collaborators with NPS in administering and leveraging resources for the program. In addition to NPS funds, the national partner is required to leverage funds and in-kind services to contribute to local Challenge Cost Share projects. The projects will support a public purpose by supporting the NPS parks, national trails system and national wild and scenic rivers. The national partners will provide financial and other forms of support for locally generated projects that aligns the shared goals of the NPS and participating partners to address the strategic priorities of the agency. The projects will promote the public purpose of conservation and outdoor recreation, public access, improve facilities, stewardship, education, and engaging diverse participants. Locally generated projects are approved by NPS and leveraged resources with local and national partner. NPS will make the final selection of projects with the counsel of the recipient. Potential applicants can apply based on their credentials to support one or more of the identified themes. Thematic categories will evolve but will retain a focus on connecting people to the outdoors, conserving national and cultural resources, rehabilitation of assets, improving public access, stewardship, education and engaging diverse participants.
