Condition Assessment and Historic Preservation Guide: This project is a multi-phased assessment of the Pecos Mission and Pecos Pueblo remains and development of an historic preservation strategy and guide. The main product is an historic preservation guide that summarizes major condition issues impacting original materials, outlines treatment strategies and condition assessment protocols, and details methods, materials and techniques used to preserve and document the original fabric comprising the church, convento, and pueblo remains. The project is a three year program involving preservation history research, condition assessments and the development of condition assessment protocols, materials research, monitoring, and a written guide that will assist managers at Pecos NHP with the long-term preservation of its most significant cultural resources- the mission church and pueblo. Preservation histories will be compiled for every exposed wall/room. The main goal of the historic preservation guide is to clearly outline procedures for preserving the parks fragile adobe and masonry resources and ensure consistency.
