Cooperative Agreement for affiliated Partner with Great Basin Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU): The US Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research on numerical modeling of Bear River Bay (BRB) outflow to Gilbert Bay of Great Salt Lake (GSL). The CESU partner will 1) develop a three-dimensional (3D) hydrodynamic model that solves the 3D Navier-Stokes Equation, and an equation for transport of salt, which is the main source of density difference in the simulated system. Turbulence in the system will be modeled using k-epsilon turbulence closure. The equations will be solved using the finite element method for spatial discretization, with prismatic elements in 3D (Hervouet 2007). The solver is part of the open-source free-surface hydrodynamics solver Telemac-3D, which is part of the Telemac-Mascaret suit of solvers (http://www.opentelemac.org/); and 2) develop physics-informed data-driven model(s) that could estimate the flow at the BRB Outflow, for a range of conditions within the range of USGS measured data.
