Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU), Rocky Mountain CESU: The U.S. Geological Surveyâ¿¿s (USGS) Fort Collins Science Center is offering a cooperative-agreement opportunity to CESU partner having capability to conduct entomological research on the management of novel herbivore-plant interactions in the context of biological control and insect invasions. Field, mesocosm, and laboratory techniques in concert have proven to be the most powerful tools to anticipate the colonization, spread, and impacts of invasive plants, invasive herbivores, and intentionally introduced biological control agents. This is to improve capabilities in these techniques in order to better monitor and control invasive plants and insects that are potentially deleterious to the management of public lands. The funding opportunity is for research in three main areas: (1) anticipating the consequences of insect-based biological control agents on invasive plants; (2) improving the prediction of novel plant-insect interactions following invasion or introduction; and (3) understanding the consequence of established insect invasions on native plant populations on US public lands.
