Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Californian CESU: The US Geological Survey, Fort Collins Science Center, is offering a funding opportunity to address whether mountain lakes, specifically of Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and Yosemite National Parks are on a trajectory of rapid eutrophication toward harmful algal blooms. Specific research questions addressed are: 1. How common are algal blooms across the landscape and what drives their occurrence? 2. How do algal productivity and biogeochemistry vary across landscape and temperature gradients? 3. What is the spatial extent in mid-to late summer phytoplankton and periphyton productivity across Sierra Nevada national parks?
