Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Colorado Plateau CESU: The USGS Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) is offering a funding opportunity for research developing strategies for effectively managing natural resources in dryland regions in the context of drought. ObjectiveThe objective of this project is to synthesize information and conduct new analysis targeted and understanding the structure and function of dryland ecosystems with a particular focus on the important role played by drought. This work will engage both CESU partner faculty and student in utilizing analytical modeling tools developed in collaboration between the USGS and CESU partner to evaluate drought impacts in dryland ecosystems across the western U.S. This project will provide policy-makers, scientists and resource managers within these ecosystems with data and insights that can be used to develop and evaluate alternative resource management strategies designed to mitigate the adverse impacts of extreme and chronic drought.
