Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Piedmont South Atlantic CESU: USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for collaborative research on effects of hydrologic variation on metapopulation dynamics of stream fishes in GA. This work will entail collaborating with USGS scientists to collect and analyze high-quality field data on fish species occupancy dynamics in relation to streamflow patterns, and is a component of a larger effort to provide a scientific basis for developing ecological flows based on measured and simulated species responses to hydrologic variation. This work will focus on the Chattahoochee and Flint River systems in the Apalachicola River basin (ACF). This effort will build on previous work in the ACF, including sampling conducted in 2011, 2012 and 2013, by collecting additional field data at sites representing a gradient of stream size and isolation from mainstem populations. These data will be used to extend and update existing metapopulation simulation models.
