Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Rocky Mountain CESU: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Fort Collins Science Center (FORT) is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to support research on the demography and vulnerability grouse populations. Grouse populations have been declining throughout North American and as human populations continue to grow, fragmentation of landscapes and the threats due to warming climates will continue to affect grouse populations, increasing the risk of local population extirpations. Research is required to better understand the potential effects of climate change and fragmentation of landscapes on population persistence, and if, and how, populations may be able to adapt to changing environments. Research in these areas will help to address priority management needs identified by federal management agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management, the National Parks Service, and the US Fish and wildlife service. As a result, these are all priority research needs for the US Geological Survey.
