Cooperative Ecoystem Studies Unit, Great Lakes Northern Forests: The US Geological Survey, John Wesley Powell Center for Analysis and Synthesis, is offering a funding opportunity to collate and analyze USGS sensor data to create an open national database of stream oxygen data with which to calculate stream metabolism. Existing data sets will be used to ask what is the annual stream metabolism in the conterminous US, what is the role of streams and rivers in regional carbon cycling, and are there trends in stream metabolism related to anthropogenic changes? Specific objectives include acquiring and screening USGS data on oxygen, temperature and discharge from USGS Water Science center databases, estimating gas exchange velocity between stream and atmosphere using Bayesian approaches to develop a probability distribution, analyzing metabolism data in association with other land use and water quality data, and producing openly-shared data, models, and analytical code.
