Enhancement of Public, Private and Faith-Based Health Laboratory Capacity to Support HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Treatment in the Republic of Tanzania Under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief: Secretarys Forecast Summary CDC-RFA-PS06-635 CDCs Procurement and Grants Office has published a new funding opportunity entitled, "Enhancement of Public, Private and Faith-Based Health Laboratory Capacity to Support HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Treatment in the Republic of Tanzania Under the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief." $300,000 will be available in FY2006 to fund up to one award to progressively build an indigenous, sustainable response to the national HIV epidemic in Tanzania through training of local laboratory directors and managers to provide leadership and guidance to HIV/AIDS laboratory services; of local laboratory specialists, technologists and technicians to perform essential HIV-screening and confirmatory tests, CD4 tests for disease staging, and basic chemistry and hematology tests to monitor therapy; and non-laboratory staff involved in confidential voluntary counseling and testing (VCT), the prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT), the treatment of Tuberculosis and HIV (TB/HIV) co-infection and blood safety programs to perfom rapid HIV testing.
