Exploratory Cancer Prevention Studies Involving Molecular Targets for Bioactive Food Components (R21): -Purpose: The goal of this concept is to foster exploratory/developmental nutrition and cancer prevention research. Specifically, this initiative seeks to promote cancer prevention research to identify and characterize molecular targets for bioactive food components. A bioactive food component is defined as a dietary constituent that has a health benefit by altering one or more cellular processes when provided in quantities over and beyond that needed for basic nutrition. -Mechanism of Support: This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) will use the NIH Exploratory/ Developmental (R21) grant mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards: Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
