Exploratory Grant Award to Promote Workforce Diversity in Basic Cancer Research (R21): This funding opportunity announcement (FOA), issued by the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD) and the Division of Cancer Biology (DCB) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), invites applications by investigators from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in basic and biomedical cancer research. The NIH recognizes a unique and compelling need to promote diversity in the NIH-funded research workforce. The purpose of this FOA is to improve the diversity of the NCI-funded research workforce by supporting and recruiting eligible investigators from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social sciences including individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from socially, culturally, economically, or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds that have recently and demonstrably inhibited their ability to pursue a career in health-related research. This funding opportunity will also provide a bridge to investigators that have completed their research training and may need extra time to develop a research project grant application.
