Limited Competition: Underage Drinking: Building Health Care System Responses (Phase II) (U01): -Purpose. The NIAAA invites applications for a limited competition for Cooperative Agreements. These applications are Phase II of a two-part FOA that was conceived and designed to enable rural and small urban health care systems to become platforms for conducting research on underage drinking. In Phase I, Underage Drinking: Building Health Care System Responses (RFA-AA-06-003), participants were to: (1) assess the extent of underage drinking in the areas they serve and (2) develop capacity for intervening with underage drinking. In Phase II, NIAAA seeks applications from the institutions that participated in Phase I. The Phase II applications will build upon successful Phase I activities in order to implement and evaluate interventions designed to address underage alcohol consumption. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the cooperative agreement (U01) grant mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NIAAA intends to award up to $3 million dollars in FY09 to fund up to four applications.
