NIJ FY07 Research on Sex Offenders: Risk Prediction Models and Effectiveness of Residency and Boundary Restrictions: The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and a component of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP). NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to enhance the administration of justice and public safety. NIJ solicits proposals to inform its search for the knowledge and tools to guide policy and practice. NIJ is seeking applications for funding two distinct research projects on sex offender issues. The purpose of this research is to inform and improve criminal justice policy and practice in order to reduce the number of sex crimes committed against both children and adults. Specifically, NIJ is seeking applications for funding to (1) examine the effectiveness of risk prediction models to better understand and assess risk among sex offenders in the community, or (2) assess the effectiveness of sex offender residency and boundary restrictions. Applicants may apply for one or both projects.
