NIJ FY15 Research on the Efficacy of Different Contraband Interdiction Modalities Used in Correctional Facilities: The purpose of the NIJ Research, Evaluation, and Development Project Grants program is to encourage and support research, development, and evaluation to improve criminal justice policy and practice in the United States.With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals to conduct research to identify the different interdiction modalities currently used by criminal justice agencies to keep contraband out of correctional facilities and what is known about their efficacy. An interdiction modality is considered to include both (1) the policies and practices that agencies use to prevent contraband from being brought into a facility as well as (2) those used to detect and remove contraband that may be in the facility. It also includes the statutes and regulations that govern how these modalities are applied.
