Ocean Sciences Research Initiation Grants: The Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE) offers Research Initiation Grants in an effort to increase the participation of under-represented groups in the ocean sciences. Research Initiation Grants provide start up funding for researchers who have been recently appointed to tenure track (or equivalent) positions, with the twin goals of enhancing the development of their research careers and broadening the participation of under-represented groups in ocean sciences. In this solicitation, the term under-represented groups will refer to and include the following: women, persons with disabilities, African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Pacific Islanders.

- *Organization Limit: Proposals may only be submitted by the following: - Universities and colleges: Universities and two- and four-year colleges (including community colleges) accredited in, and having a campus located in the U.S. Non-profit, non-academic organizations: Independent museums,observatories, research laboratories, professional societies and similar organizations located in the U.S. that are directly associated with educational or research activities. *PI Limit: Principal investigators must, at the time of proposal submission: Be a U.S. citizen, national,or permanent resident;Have accepted or are currently in a tenure track Assistant Professor level faculty position or equivalent research appointment, and have been in the position no more than 36 months; and Have not been a Principal Investigator or co-Principal Investigator on a new federal research grant since starting the tenure track position. Previous federal support through a doctoral dissertation improvement award or as a fellow (postdoctoral or graduate) is not disqualifying. Co-Principal Investigators or senior personnel are not permitted, but collaborations with other scientists and/or visiting scientist status in other laboratories are permitted. Proposals that fail to meet the above eligibility requirements will be returned without review.
