PPHF 12 State Public Health Approaches for Ensuring Quitline Capacity Financed solely by 2012 Prevention and Public Health Funds: As part of the overall effort to reduce the burden of chronic diseases and chronic disease risk factors, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) announces the opportunity to apply for funds to ensure and support state quitline capacity, in order to respond to upcoming federal initiatives such as the National Tobacco Education Campaign.

Additional Information on Eligibility
Eligibility is limited to currently funded recipients under CDC-RFA-DP09-901 and CDC-RFA-DP09-902. These include state, District of Columbia, and the U.S. territorial health departments of Guam and Puerto Rico because they are the only entities with the capacity to prevent and control tobacco use and which provide quitline services within the states and territories. State and territorial health departments are also uniquely qualified to address the anticipated increase in calls to quitlines due to federal media education campaigns, while expanding capacity and eligibility to ensure all callers receive some form of assistance. These agencies are also uniquely qualified to promote the quitline, increase quit attempts, and increase public and private partnerships to ensure quitline sustainability.
