Science Communication Outreach for the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network: This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service (NPS), intention to fund the following project activities without competition. The recipient will work to develop science communication products and educational materials about National Park Service inventory and monitoring projects through the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network. The co-PI will mentor a graduate research assistant who will work with NPS NCBN staff to develop a number of science communication related products aimed at park staff and visitors, including resource briefs, researcher profiles, podcasts, and photo stories. The team will build from the PI's current work developing communication materials about Hurricane Sandy and its impacts in NCBN parks, including their deepening understanding of NPS staff needs and the audience for each park. Based on the identified needs of NCBN staff, the team will develop products for park interpretive staff, park managers, superintendents, and the public that will educate and discuss the need for and outcomes of ecological research and management in the parks and science-based decision making.
