Secondary Analysis of Existing Alcohol Epidemiology Data (R21): This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism solicits Exploratory/Developmental (R21) applications for organizations/institutions that propose to conduct secondary analysis of existing data sets. Purpose. To enhance our understanding of the patterns of alcohol consumption and the epidemiology of alcohol-related problems. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism and runs in parallel with two FOAs of identical scientific scope, PA-06-558 that solicit applications under the R03 award mechanisms and the R01 which will be issued in the near future. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the mechanism numbers, quality, duration, and cost of the applications received. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
