Summer Institute Program to Increase Diversity in Health-Related Research: - This program will fund summer institutes to enable faculty and scientists from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and faculty and scientists with disabilities to further develop their research skills and knowledge, enhancing their career development as faculty members or scientists. The primary goal of this program is to encourage scientists and research-oriented faculty to develop research skills and gain experience in advanced methods and experimental approaches in basic and applied sciences relevant to heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) disorders, so that they may compete for external funding for scientific research in the biomedical and behavioral sciences. This Request for Applications (RFA) invites senior faculty, established researchers, and experienced mentors to apply to be Program Directors and Co-Directors for the Summer Institute Program for Increasing Diversity (SIPID) awards in order to mentor promising candidates. - A total of up to $4.860 million is available over the four-year period for the project. - Five to six awards will be made from this RFA. - This RFA will use the R25 mechanism. - For-profit or non-profit organizations, public or private institutions, units of state and local governments, eligible agencies of the federal government, and faith-based organizations are eligible to apply for this program. Foreign institutions are not eligible for receiving grants under this solicitation, and domestic applications may not include international components. - Any individual with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed program is invited to work with his/her institution to develop an application for support.
