Supporting vulnerable refugees and returnees in Niger: Priority Region: All regions of NigerProgram Objectives: The objective of Julia Taft Fund for Refugees is to meet one-time, low-cost projects to address important gaps in refugee protection and assistance. PRM's Taft Refugee Fund is intended to meet gaps in ongoing refugee programs that can be filled locally through projects of up to $25,000 and that are not already being addressed by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), other international organizations (IOs), or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are already receiving U.S. government funding. The Taft Refugee Fund is intended primarily to support projects that assist refugees or refugee returnees. The Taft Refugee Fund is intended for projects that include a target beneficiary base of at least 50 percent refugees or returnees. These should be one- time interventions, not sustained programs. The Taft Refugee Fund cannot provide direct support to host governments. The program may entertain proposals for support of international NGOs (INGO), but the preference is to support reliable local NGOs to encourage capacity building for smaller, local partners. There are approximately 218,000 refugees in Niger, who receive assistance from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Organization for Migration (IOM), other international organizations (IOs), or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) receiving U.S. government funding. Unfortunately, many of the refugees' needs are not met by these International Organizations. The Taft Refugee Fund is intended to meet gaps in refugee assistance. Refugees are living in difficult conditions due to limited of funding for interventions. This iteration of the Julia Taft Fund for Refugees is seeking interventions in the reported gaps in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Education, Food Security and Livelihoods, Health and Nutrition, and Protection.Beneficiaries:Vulnerable refugee and/or returnee households in Niger.
