Women and Sex/Gender Differences in Drug and Alcohol Abuse/Dependence (R03): -Purpose. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to promote research on women and sex/gender differences in drug/alcohol abuse and dependence. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R03) award mechanism and runs in parallel with two FOAs of identical scientific scope, PA-07-329 and PA-07-331, that solicit applications under the Small Research Grant (R01) and Exploratory/Developmental (R21) award mechanisms, respectively. Research on drug and alcohol abuse/dependence is addressed separately in this FOA under Research Objectives. -The R03 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology.
