English Language for Professional Journalists in Kazakhstan: Application deadline has been extended: July 15, 2020 6:00 pm (Nur-Sultan time/8:00 am EST)The Embassy of the United States in Kazakhstan supports the aspirations of the government of Kazakhstan to develop the professionalism of Kazakhstani journalists and expand knowledge of the English language as it becomes a trilingual society. Many Kazakhstani media outlets require fluent English-speaking staff to verify information and gather sources, including interviews or research. Meanwhile, the number of professional journalists able to fluently operate not only in Russian and Kazakh, but also in English is limited. To address this need, the Embassy of the United States in Kazakhstan will support a program that will incorporate both training in the English language and the exchange of practical journalism experience among participants and alumni of the program. This will encourage the exchange of skills and knowledge, and help create a community of like-minded professionals. The successful applicant will efficiently manage and implement at least six months of English language courses for journalists to help them to improve their English language skills necessary for professional needs. The English language courses should be held in at least seven different cities of Kazakhstan. In addition, the successful applicant will be responsible for establishing and running local English clubs that will bring together current participants and alumni of the program in the cities where the program has been running for over 2 years. The implementing partner will be responsible for: ensuring the quality of the courses at each location; updating a database of students; engaging alumni; recruiting and training qualified instructors; assessing students before, during, and after the program; and gathering feedback.
