FY 2002 Reducing Community Gun Violence: The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) will only accept applications from jurisdictions who have been specifically invited to apply by BJA. Applicants were notified by fax on January 29, 2003 of their selection. All other applications will not be processed. The FY 2002 Reducing Community Gun Violence - Project Safe Neighborhoods competitive solicitation seeks to fund innovative local responses to gun violence. Units of local and state government were invited to submit concept papers. Forty sites were chosen for funding by peer review panels and BJA staff. Each will create and implement a unique local program focused on prevention, community outreach and education; enforcement, adjudication and supervision programs; or some other innovative project to stem violent gun crimes.
