FY 2003 Tribal Youth Program: The Office of Justice Programs (OJP s) Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention s (OJJDP s) Tribal Youth Program (TYP) supports and enhances tribal efforts to prevent and control delinquency and improve the juvenile justice system for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth. Those applying for funding must identify at least one and no more than two of the following categories as the focus of their application for funding:  Provide prevention services to impact risk factors for delinquency. Prevention services include risk factor identification, gang prevention education, youth gun violence reduction programs, truancy prevention programs, school dropout prevention programs, afterschool programs, mentoring programs, and parenting education programs.  Provide interventions for court-involved tribal youth. Intervention services include graduated sanctions, restitution, diversion, home detention, foster and shelter care, and mentoring programming.  Improve tribal juvenile justice systems. Juvenile justice improvements include the development, implementation, and enhancement of indigenous justice strategies, tribal juvenile codes, tribal youth courts, intake assessments, advocacy programs, gender-specific programming, juvenile probation services, and reentry programs.  Provide alcohol and drug abuse prevention programs. Alcohol and drug abuse prevention programs include drug and/or alcohol education, drug testing, and screening.
