Fish and Wildlife Coordination and Assistance: The project will evaluate cost-effective bioretention depths to provide biologically significant improvements in the water quality of untreated urban stormwater runoff which can adversely impact the health of fish and biological communities. Funds under this award are to be used to answer two important questions that the proposed research will address: 1) How long can the 60:40 bioretention soil media prevent toxic effects to aquatic animals; 2) What soil depths are necessary to provide treatment. Chemical and biological effectiveness will be evaluated using analytical chemistry and the health of two fish species, juvenile salmon and zebrafish embryos.
