KLAMATH BASIN TRIBAL YOUTH PROGRAM: Summer youth training and employment positions will be funded by this program. The program encompass a series of trainings and projects that will last between 4-8 weeks depending on the project types, beginning on or after August 1, 2014 and ending no later than August 31, 2016 or until funding has been expended. Program administration, implementation and monitoring will be completed by the Lomakatsi Restoration Progect. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for youth to explore and experience the possible career choices offered in the field of Natural Resources. The Klamath River Basin tribes are in need of building a labor force from tribal youth that will fill future openings. Offering the training experience will provide necessary vocational exploration that can foster interest in pursuing a career in the Tribal Natural Resource area. This program supports employment and training activities for Native American youth in order: • To develop more fully the academic, occupational, and literacy skills of such individuals; • To make such individuals more competitive in the workforce; and • To promote the economic and social development of Native American communities. There are 5 federally recognized tribes located on the Lower Klamath Basin. They are made up of the Karuk Tribe, Quartz Valley Indian Reservation, Hoopa Valley Tribe, Resighini Rancheria and Yurok Tribe. This program will provide funding to administer, implement, and monitor the Tribal Youth Work Program and will fund summer youth in training and/or employment positions consistent with: • The conservation and restoration of tribal natural resources; • Natural Resource activities focusing on tribal treaty fishing rights or native subsistence; or • Educating, instructing, and disseminating information concerning conditions in the Klamath River Basin.
