Master Announcement: Co-Production Advanced Technology/Process Concepts: NOTE: This is a synopsis of the Funding Opportunity Announcement. You must read the entire announcement (Attached below under Full Announcement and Other Files ) for application preparation instructions. Applications can not be submitted directly under this master announcement but must be submitted under the sub-area of interest. The U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) is competitively seeking cost-shared applications for research and development efforts to improve coal-based technologies directed at: 1) co-producing hydrogen and electricity, 2) co-producing substitute natural gas (SNG) and electricity, and 3) enhancing the economics of co-production facilities by integrating the production of high value chemicals and/or carbon products. The co-production strategy in a carbon-constrained world, will require advanced technologies and/or process concepts that can increase plant efficiency, and reduce capital and operating costs while generating sequestration-ready carbon dioxide streams. The key focus of this solicitation is to develop novel process technologies/unit operations and/or novel process flow concepts to improve the economics and efficiency of coal gasification co-production facilities. This Announcement will be administered through the Office of Coal and Power R D at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). The Application must describe the novel technologies/process concepts, discuss the technical challenges associated with the proposed technologies/process concept, describe the approach to resolving these issues, and present a logical path to bring the approach to commercial reality. A block diagram of the overall gasification process from feed to product(s) is required to illustrate how the novel technologies/process concept satisfies the requirements of the solicitation. The block diagram must clearly specify those unit operations that are commercially available, those unit operations that are currently under-development by other organizations, and the concept(s)/technology(ies) that will be developed by the Recipient.
