Nanostructured Dental Composite Restorative Materials (R21): -The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) invites applications focused on the use of nanotechnology and nanoscience approaches to design and develop new dental composite materials with superior properties. The expected outcomes are new formulations for dental composites with improved bonding to dentin and enamel surfaces, durability, esthetics, and biocompatibility. -The NIDCR intends to commit approximately $3 million in total costs in FY 2007 for this announcement to support 10 - 15 meritorious applications. -This funding opportunity will use the exploratory/development research grant (R21) award mechanism. -Eligible organizations include: for-profit or non-profit organizations, public or private institutions, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, and laboratories, units of State and local governments, eligible agencies of the Federal government, domestic institutions/organizations, For! eign institutions that offer unusual talent, resources, populations, or environmental conditions that are not readily available in the United States are eligible to apply. -Eligible principal investigators include any individual with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH programs. -Applicants may submit more than one application, provided they are scientifically distinct.
