Prisoner Reentry Initiative (PRI): The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) will award competitive grants to state agencies to provide pre-release assessment and services, and post release supervision, as well as aid in the increased use of transition planning for prisoners who will be returning to the communities that receive the new Department of Labors Workforce Investment Act Demonstration Grants; Solicitation for Grant Applications Prisoner Re-entry Initiative. This solicitation will serve and support pre-release assessments, programming, and collaboration with other criminal justice agencies and community based providers; to aid in the community integration of supervised and non-supervised non-violent offenders who are returning to the communities. Those communities identified as recipients of the awards made possible through the DOL solicitation released April 1, 2005 will be given priority consideration for funding. Awards will be made to state agencies who partner with local jails, faith-based and or community-based organizations (FB/CBOSs) that have the capacity to provide assistance under this initiative. The target population includes individuals ages 18 to 35 who have never been convicted of a violent offense and who are being incarcerated in a state or federal prison, and county jails. A 25 percent match is required for this grant program, and federal funding amount may not exceed 75 percent of the total project costs. Grants up to $450,000 will be awarded to eligible recipients for a grant period of 24 months.
