Promoting Domestic And International Consensus on Fossil Energy Technologies: The primary mission of U.S. Department of Energy?s Office of Fossil Energy is to ensure the nation can continue to rely on coal, oil, and natural gas resources for clean, secure and affordable energy while enhancing environmental protection. Within the Office of Fossil Energy, The Office of Clean Coal is responsible for developing the strategic policy and direction of research, development and demonstration (RD&D) related to clean coal technologies, and interacting with other elements of the Department, the Administration, Congress and the public on coal and electric power policy, programs and budget for those programs under its purview. Throughout the United States and globally, there exists a lack of domestic and international knowledge and consensus on the two most promising approaches to reducing CO2 and improving power production: carbon capture and storage and clean energy systems. Compared with other CO2 reduction options and disregarding local circumstances, commercial-scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Clean Energy Systems (CES) appear to be the cheapest mitigation options. However, CCS and CES require effective cost and risk assessments, improved policy and regulatory frameworks, and improved monitoring systems. One of the key missions of the Office of Fossil Energy is to, ?ensure the nation can continue to rely on traditional resources for clean, secure and affordable energy while enhancing environmental protection.? To accomplish this mission, it is imperative that the Office of Fossil Energy provide outreach and education to many stakeholders, including the general public in order to allow them to make educated choices about energy. Towards this end, the Office of Fossil Energy seeks to partner with organizations with similar goals to help improve understanding and develop cooperative action on CCS and CES by reaching out to additional international and national organizations to conduct a series of co-related tasks that mutually serve the mission of the public as well as the Office of Fossil Energy. The DOE?s Office of Fossil Energy?s Office of Oil and Natural Gas (FE Oil & Gas) works to achieve a more secure energy future through the diversified supply of oil and natural gas resources while minimizing environmental impacts. FE Oil & Gas seeks to promote its mission in general and specifically promote safe and responsible development of oil and natural gas in the United States and in other countries, by sharing best practices and advanced technology. This will benefit the public by ensuring reliable, clean, and affordable supplies of oil and natural gas in the United States.
