Salmon River Rotary Screw Trap: Description The objective of this project is to monitor the spring-time juvenile salmonid emigrations from the Klamath River during the spring-summer of 2007. The proposed work helps address Klamath River Restoration Program Goals III, IV and V and Objectives III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, and X. Monitoring efforts will collect data that provide the following information: A) Relative abundance, size, development, age, and health of juvenile hatchery and natural origin chinook, steelhead, and coho, emigrating from the mainstem Klamath River. Population estimates of chinook and steelhead determined using a stratified mark-recapture experiment. B) Timing of peak emigration (chinook, steelhead, and coho), natural and hatchery composition of catch (chinook, steelhead, and coho), and migration rates of hatchery released juvenile chinook salmon. C) Investigate those environmental factors influencing the emigration timing, magnitude, and travel rates of juvenile salmonids. D) Provide weekly trap catch, river flow, and water temperature data summaries to all interested parties, and available online via the world-wide-web.
