San Joaquin River Salmon Conservation and Research Program (Conservation Program): The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) will provide support to California State Univeristy, Chico Research Foundation to ensure continuing collection of important information about juvenile spring run Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) on Butte Creek, California. This information is important to understanding the population status and trends. A recovery plan goal for spring run chinook salmon is to reintroduce Central Valley spring-run Chinook salmon to the San Joaquin River (SJR) upstream of the mouth of the Merced River in the Central Valley of California. Critical reintroduction decisions will rely on population status and trends information. USFWS intends to award California State University, Chico Research Foundation a single source grant agreement based on its long history of particiapation on the project that goes back over nine (9) years to 2003 and its unique qualification through the technical expertise it has gained during the past decade. This grant will provide funding for a rotary screw trap study.
