Technical Topic Area 4 - Hydrate in the Global Environment: Topic Area 4 - Hydrate in the Global Environment (DE-PS26-08NT43260-04) Applications are sought for research that focuses on improving the scientific understanding of the role methane and gas hydrates play in global carbon cycling and/or in climate change, either in the geologic past, at the present, or in the future. Studies of interest could include, but are not necessarily limited to: (1) quantification of the production, consumption, and flux of methane in oceanic (sediment and water column) and terrestrial (particularly arctic) environments; (2) the influence of gas hydrate on the global carbon cycle and the dynamic response of gas hydrate accumulations to changing geologic/environmental conditions; and (3) integration of gas hydrate-relevant data and process descriptions into ocean circulation, atmospheric, and climate models.
