BLM N Nevada Abandoned Mine Archaeological Survey Project: This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the Bureau of Land Management?s intention to fund the following project activities without full and open competition. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Great Basin Institute (GBI), through a cooperative agreement, will conduct a joint effort for the purpose of conducting archaeological research and preservation throughout Nevada with particular focus on abandoned mine management in the Great Basin. This collaboration would provide an outlet for young professionals to obtain training and ?on the ground? experience in data collection, research, documentation and analysis throughout northern Nevada. The recipient?s participation in this project would allow for their associates to become familiar with federal land management processes and policies related to recreation and wilderness resources with particular emphasis on the effect abandoned mines have on those resources. This project will assist with expediting the closure of abandoned mines and is vital to increasing public safety on the lands managed by the BLM.
