Forensic DNA Research & Development: With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals for research and development that can enhance the forensic uses of DNA technology. This solicitation focuses on: - Technologies allowing faster, more robust, less costly, or less labor-intensive identification, collection, preservation, or analysis of DNA evidence (special consideration will be given to the development of miniaturized or portable forensic DNA testing devices). - Characterization of genetic marker systems that can reveal additional information about a DNA contributor. - Technologies that can increase the successful analysis of compromised biological evidence. - Exploration of non-human DNA markers with the potential to provide information about a crime.
