Hopi Landfill Water Infrastructure System and Storage Tank Evaluation and Refurbishment: This Grant Agreement (Agreement) is provided under Reclamation’s Native American Affairs-Technical Assistance Program to the Hualapai Tribe (Tribe) to better assist in the maintenance and management of the water infrastructure on the Hualapai Reservation. The Tribe’s Water Resources Program has extensively evaluated water supply conditions for the Solid Waste Programs Landfill Operations Complex located near the town of Hard Rock in Navajo County, Arizona. These investigations have determined that water supply is currently not functional and the infrastructure is in need of major repair and refurbishment activities. Of particular concern is there is no water to provide for basic sanitary and/or emergency fire suppression for the facility or employees and for vector control. Resolution of this issue is critical for the Hopi Tribe. Reestablishment of the water source will help ensure the safe delivery of water to the Solid Waste Landfill Complex. Reclamation funds will be used to complete a water storage tank inspection and report, purchase and install a new submersible well pump, refurbish electrical generator and to replace and upgrade all electrical systems and control panels associated with the water delivery and storage systems located at the Landfill Complex. In addition, the Tribe will purchase warning signage to place throughout the reservation for non-potable drinking water sources to protect community health.
