Steptoe Valley Noxious & Invasive Weed Education and Research SNPLMA Round 8 Project: This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the Bureau of Land Management's intention to fund the following project activities without full and open competition. The State of Nevada Bureau of Land Management Ely Field Office nominated and was awarded a Round 8 Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA) Eastern Nevada Landscape Restoration Project to assist the Steptoe Valley Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) with noxious weed inventory, treatment, and outreach. The awarded project indicated the Eastern Nevada Landscape Coalition (ENLC) as one of the partners to be utilized to accomplish a greater understanding of noxious and invasive weeds throughout the Steptoe Valley. ENLC is an established partner with the BLM and possesses a wealth of experience and knowledge regarding noxious weed eradication efforts throughout the Great Basin gained through past cooperative efforts. This project presents new opportunities to more effectively control weed infestations and research completed on different treatment methods available for the major weed species in the valley, hoary cress. Results will provide the BLM, the ENLC and the public with more effective treatment techniques and better working relationships with private landowners. Data collected and analyzed will be available to help facilitate mutual purposes of the ENLC and BLM. Increasing weed education efforts and effectiveness of weed treatments across all landowners will increase the chances of noxious weed containment and eradication.
